History
In
the early 1990's a dedicated group of equestrians combined their
efforts to establish a public equine facility. Their
vision was to have Show Grounds, Fox Hunting terrain, numerous
trails and stabling facilities. The members of the Wicomico
Equestrian Society were moving forward with their project to
build a complete facility at the historical Pemberton Park in
Salisbury Maryland. For decades Pemberton Park had
been the hub of equestrian activities on the shore, hosting such
events back into the early 1900's.
A few years into the project, the organization met with numerous
road blocks including an ongoing archeological dig at Pemberton
Park which delayed the development of the property for an indefinite
time. Fortunately a developer whom purchased the famed Winter
Place Farm was subdividing the property at Winter Place
Farm and offered the remaining barn, carriage house and grounds
to Wicomico County for the development of an equestrian
facility. It was really quite a fitting future for the
once magnificent farm.
