Gymkhana Games – Mounted Games
In general for all Gymkhana games, each obstacle or task has a predetermined point value and there is a time limit or optimal time. Players’ scores are determined by accurate completion of tasks, successful clearance of obstacles, and total time taken to complete the pattern or proximity to optimal time. Obstacles and tasks for each Gymkhana Game may be considered optional; while successful execution of any one of them will add specified points, failure to execute them accurately will not gain you points but will cost you or your team time. We have tried to be specific here about what will appear at the first Savvy Tournament and Gymkhana but you should be prepared for anything and we are creative. Remember, the tasks and obstacles are optional and safety for you and your horse are of primary concern.

Individual Games
Paired Relay 1 – Two mirror-image courses are set with barrel, bucket, and an open and shut container placed in some pattern. Riders take an object they can carry to the barrel, place the object on the barrel, circle the barrel and pick up the object (10 points). They ride to the bucket, drop the object in the bucket from the left side of the horse (with their left hand), back the horse up and position the horse with the bucket on its right side (10 points). Dismount on the right side, retrieve the object from the bucket and remount from the right side (10 points; 3 tries to mount, points reduced with each try). Ride to the open/shut container, open it and retrieve one of the objects inside, give it to the horse (10 points), and ride to finish (10 points).

Mini-Trail Course – Obstacles and tasks include opening, closing, and putting up flag on a mailbox (10 points). Execution of a 360 degree turn, in a limited space, of a turn on the haunches or on the forehand (10 points. Sidepassing over a pole (front legs on one side of the pole; hindlegs on the other – 10 points). Walking or trotting over poles (without touching the poles – 10 points). Backing between poles to touch tail to fence or making a turn while backing between poles (10 points). Gait transitions at markers on course (10 points).

Team Games
Partner Race
– 2 horses, 2 riders, one stick, pole, rope, ribbon, etc. Each rider holds one end of object and team rides a predetermined pattern. Pattern will contain multiple markers. Course will be marked with optional changes of gait, including halts and back-ups as well as upward transitions at or within a limited distance from the markers. Course may also include one or more obstacles. Each marker or obstacle will be given a point value; the number of options accurately executed will determine the teams’ score for the game. If team overruns a marker, or makes a transition well before a marker, or one or both member(s) loses the object, no points are given for that marker.

Team Relay 1 – Riders will be divided into two or more equal-sized groups. A hand-sized object that riders can carry will be transported along a predetermined course with markers and perhaps one or more obstacles, each of which is worth a specified point value. First rider must transport the object along the predetermined course to the second rider, pass off the object to second rider who then rides the course and so on until teams have completed the relay. The obstacles and optional changes that team members execute correctly add points to their teams’ score.
