Savvy Tournament Games – Ground Games

All Savvy Ground Games will have a time limit; we are estimating 2 to 3 minutes per challenge to be the average. The Savvy Ground Tournament will consist of 4 Ground Games.
For all ground games:
Additional 10 points – Challenge is performed At Liberty.

Tarp Challenge – 8’ by 10’ tarp on the ground in the center of a 12’ diameter circle; a second circle, 22’ in diameter, surrounds the circle and tarp.
For 10 points – Person must stay outside the circle and horse must enter the circle (once all 4 feet are in the circle, if any foot comes out, the pair must move on to the next challenge). Horse must put all 4 feet on the tarp and be still (no moving feet) for 7 consecutive seconds; if horse moves before seven second count is completed, the pair must move on to the next challenge.
Additional 10 points – Person stands outside the second circle.
Additional 20 points – Person may now come inside circle, move horse off the tarp (but not out of smaller circle), pick up the tarp and put it on horse; horse must be still (no moving feet) for 7 seconds while person’s hands are in the air.

Slalom Challenge – 6 cones in a line each about 8’ to 10’ from the next with 2 parallel lines, one about 6’ to 8’ feet from the line of cones and one twice that distance.
For 10 points – Online Person must stay behind the first line and move horse through slalom. At Liberty Person stays with horse through the slalom. All 4 feet must follow the correct path – if one foot is on the wrong side of the cones, pair must move on to the next challenge.
Additional 10 points – Online Person must stay behind the second line on the way back. At Liberty Person must stay behind the first line.

Sideways Challenge – Line, Pole, and 2 or 3 Barrels (on side, end-to-end) in 3 parallel lines with about 10’ between line and pole and another 10’ between pole and barrels.
For 10 points – Person must stand behind line and move horse sideways along pole. Horse’s front feet must stay in front of pole, hind feet must stay behind pole; if horse steps over pole rather than off one end, the pair must move on to the next challenge.
Additional 10 points – Person stays behind line and backs horse to side of barrels then moves horse sideways along barrels. If horse moves a barrel out of position rather than moving off the end of row of barrels, the pair must move on to the next challenge.

Squeeze Challenge – Line of barrels or long jump perpendicular to wall or fence with about 10’ of open space between the inner end of the jump and a marker (could be a chair, a platform, or another marker to show where the person should be) and another marker about another 10’ away. Jump and markers must all be in a line perpendicular to fence or wall.
For 10 points – Person must stand (or sit) on the first marker and send horse over the jump; horse must turn and wait a minimum of 7 seconds and then return over jump, turn and wait 7 seconds. If horse breaks the line between person and jump, the pair must move on to the next challenge.
Additional 10 points – Person moves to second marker and stands (or sits) and sends horse over jump as before.
Additional 10 points – Horse returns to Person so that Person may stroke Horse’s face. If Person must apply pressure, indirect or direct, to reach Horse, no points are awarded and the pair must move on to the next challenge.

Circle Challenge – Person must send Horse at a specified gait (or not) on a minimum of 2 circles and pick up Stick or swing end of rope no more than once. This could be done from a point standing, sitting, or standing on an object. If Horse breaks gait or stops before the circles are completed, the pair must move on to the next challenge.
Additional 10 points – Challenge is performed at a distance allowed by a 22’ line.
Additional 10 points – Challenge is performed at a distance allowed by a 45’ line.

Object Challenge – An object heavy enough not to blow over or away will be placed in the middle of a 10’ in diameter circle; make 2 additional circles, one 20’ in diameter and one 30’ in diameter around the object.
For 10 points – Person remains outside the circle and sends Horse to object; horse must stop and look at object. If Horse passes the object, or steps out of the circle after all 4 feet are inside the circle, the pair must move on to the next challenge.
Additional 10 points – Horse knocks object over or moves it.
Additional 10 points – Challenge is performed with person outside the 2nd circle.
Additional 10 points – Challenge is performed with person outside the 3rd circle.

Trailer Loading Challenge – A trailer will be parked in the arena space with one side open.
For 10 points – Send Horse into trailer, horse must load fully and stand for 7 seconds (no backing out or shuffling feet). Person may ask horse to back out and resend if horse does not load fully.
Additional 10 points – Person sits on Fender and performs Challenge.
Additional 10 points – Person is a minimum of 20’ from trailer behind plane of the rear of trailer and performs challenge.
Additional 10 points – Person is a minimum of 20’ from trailer behind plane of the rear of trailer, performs challenge and Horse loads at a trot or canter.

Figure 8 Challenge – Two barrels, or objects set about 10 feet apart. A third point, spot, chair, something to stand on, etc. forms an equilateral triangle with other 2 objects or barrels.
For 10 points – Standing or sitting on the third point, Person sends Horse in a figure of 8 around to two remaining objects/barrels beginning with a back-up between the two objects.
Additional 10 points – Challenge is performed from 15’ away from the first point.
